MLMT Medical 2015 Visit
The Moses Lake Medical Team did not perform a medical mission in 2015. We had some invitations to carry out medical missions in various part of Nigeria, but since 2015 was an election year in Nigeria, we decided to stay away for the country so as not to interfere with the election process.
In December 2015 however, four members of the team travelled to Kebbi State, Nigeria, with an invitation from the State Governor, His Excellency Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu. The purpose of the visit was to explore the possibility of carrying out a future medication mission in the state.
We flew into Abuja, spent the night and flew to Sokoto the following day. In Sokoto, we visited the Sokoto Teaching Hospital, and Dr. Usman Bello the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital gave us a tour of the hospital. We went on the road to Bernin Kebbi (state capital) from Sokoto. This was about 90-minute’s road trip. While in Kebbi, we visited some of the hospitals, including Sir Yahaya General Hospital in Bernin Kebbi and the State Hospital, which is still under construction. We met with some of the medical providers in the state.
While in Kebbi State, the governor of the neighboring state, Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State, heard about our presence, and invited us to stop by for a visit on our way back to Abuja. We visited with the governor before catching our flight back to Abuja, and then back to the United States.
The visiting MLMT members were convinced that the State of Kebbi is safe and peaceful, and that the team would like to perform a medical mission in the state of Kebbi in the nearest future.
