Moses Lake Medical team was formed in the 1st quarter of 2008 as a non profit organization in the state of Washington. The organization was registered after a trip to Nigeria in 2007 by Dr. Lateef Olaniyan R.Ph. and Ken George R.Ph. to register as pharmacists in Nigeria. During the 6 week program, Lateef and Ken travelled to various parts of Nigeria. While travelling in Nigeria, Lateef and Ken identified a number of pressing needs in the healthcare field as they affected persons and their communities at large. Dr. Lateef Olaniyan (Pharm. D.), a Food Pavilion pharmacist in Moses Lake, Washington State and Ken George had meetings with a number of medical professionals, business leaders and lawmakers. In Abuja, the interest and support of a first term Nigerian House of Representatives member from Kwara state, the Honorable Aliyu Bahago Ahman-Pategi was received. In discussions, Honorable Pategi mentioned that his constituency could benefit tremendously from the health related initiatives that were tabled. Honorable Pategi informed the duo that Patigi General Hospital in Patigi town a hospital in his constituency built in the late 60i?1s with foreign aid was poorly equipped and understaffed. He further elaborated that the people in this area deserve and desperately need medical intervention and good healthcare services.

After a few meetings, it was determined that a multi disciplinary medical mission should be put together to visit Kwara state in April 2008. The executive governor of the state, a medical doctor himself, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki was informed about the plan and he immediately gave his full support to the initiative. He called in the cooperation of Hajia Asiat Ayinke Saka his Commissioner of Health and other pertinent bodies and, invoking Federal Government input in purposeful preparation for this visitation. The executive governor saw to it that known needs were met and appropriate funds were freed and issued to the Sobi Specialist Hospital, Ilorin and Patigi General Hospital, Patigi, two sites of special attention in an effort to make the visitation successful.
